In Greene County district court Nathaniel James Biggart, 19, of Grand Junction was granted a deferred judgment after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of possession of marijuana- first offense. He was placed on informal probation for one year and must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. He must pay a civil penalty of $315, a $125 Law Enforcement Initiative surcharge, a $10 drug abuse resistance education (DARE) surcharge, and restitution to be determined for his court appointed attorney’s fees. Court costs were $100. A companion case in magistrate court in which Biggart was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia was dismissed. Court costs in that case were $60. Ryan James Brown, 44, of Jefferson pleaded not guilty to charges of driving while license barred and child endangerment. A trial date was set for Sept. 26.
